Two Accused in 2021 Terror Attack Case on Former President Nasheed to Face Hearings Tomorrow

The Criminal Court is scheduled to hold hearings tomorrow for two of the six individuals charged in connection with the 2021 terrorist attack targeting former President Mohamed Nasheed.

The hearings for Ali Haisham of Nooreege, N. Manadhoo and Fahmhee Ali of Hudhuruvaage, GA. Villingili are scheduled for 2pm and 9am, respectively. According to the Criminal Court’s hearing schedule, Haisham faces charges of participating in a terrorist act, planning a terrorist act and aiding in the transportation of explosives, while Fahmhee has been charged with participating in a terrorist act.

The state has also charged Mujaz Ahmed, Thahmeen Ahmed, Mohamed Nazim and Ishaq in connection with the attack. The charges relate to their alleged involvement in the bombing, which targeted Nasheed outside his residence in Malé.

The attack took place on 6 May 2021, when a remotely detonated homemade explosive device attached to a motorcycle was detonated near Nasheed’s residence at the junction of Neelofaru Magu and Majeedhee Magu. Nasheed sustained multiple shrapnel injuries, while three members of his security detail and two bystanders suffered minor injuries.

According to the case details released previously, the device was packed with bearing balls and detonated remotely as Nasheed approached the motorcycle.
