Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Allegedly Hijacking Car and Causing Multiple Crashes in Fuvahmulah

A 35-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested after allegedly taking a car by threatening its owner and driving it into a motorcycle, another car and a palm tree in Fuvahmulah.
Police said the incident occurred near Fuvahmulah Moodige at around 6:22pm yesterday. The car first struck a motorcycle travelling ahead before the driver allegedly continued without stopping and collided with another car and a palm tree.

A woman riding the motorcycle and an eight-year-old girl travelling as a passenger sustained various injuries in the crash and were taken to Fuvahmulah Hospital. Police said the hospital confirmed that neither sustained serious injuries.
Police said the driver was taken into custody in connection with the incident and is suspected of driving while intoxicated. Preliminary findings indicate that he had allegedly taken the car after threatening its owner with harm and threatening to destroy the vehicle.
The two cars and motorcycle involved sustained varying degrees of damage. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
