Maldives to Establish High-Tech Engineering Lab for Local and International Research

President Muizzu has announced government plans to establish a high-tech engineering laboratory facility to advance research and analysis across various engineering disciplines in the Maldives.

The President disclosed the initiative during a video address broadcast on social media to mark National Engineers’ Day. In his message, he extended greetings to all working engineers, students pursuing engineering studies, and individuals dedicated to developing local talent within the sector.

Highlighting the demanding nature of the field, President Muizzu stressed the necessity of expanding the local engineering workforce and encouraged more Maldivian students to pursue higher education in technical disciplines.

According to the President, the proposed laboratory will feature specialized research infrastructure accommodating civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, software, aircraft, and aeronautical engineering, alongside emerging fields such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital engineering.

President Muizzu additionally noted that the facility will serve both local students and international researchers, providing a platform for advanced technical study and experimentation. The government intends to secure the necessary expertise and investment to complete the project sustainably without imposing a financial burden on the state budget.
