The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has issued a directive requiring recipients of state social assistance to re-register for their monthly financial benefits. According to statements from NSPA, the initiative aims to streamline the welfare distribution system, boost operational accountability, and ensure that public funds reach the most vulnerable households as required by law.

Under Section 8(d) of Regulation No. 2016/R-22 (Social Protection General Regulation), enacted under the Social Protection Act (Law No. 2/2014), the state authorises welfare benefit grants for a fixed duration of two calendar years. Because current registrations under the two-year cycle expire, the agency now requires all existing beneficiaries to re-verify their eligibility.

Official guidelines specify that individuals registered on the national welfare roster up to November 2024 must submit fresh applications prior to the deadline of 30 November 2026. The requirement applies directly to recipients receiving state assistance across three key benefit categories:

  • Single Parent Financial Allowance: Monthly financial support provided to low-income single mothers or fathers raising children independently.
  • Foster & Orphan Care Allowance: Financial assistance provided for children living in poverty who lack direct parental support and are under the care of guardians, alongside allowances for the caregivers themselves.
  • Food Subsidies & Assistance: Financial aid designated for vulnerable families and individuals living in poverty to purchase essential food commodities.

NSPA confirmed that beneficiaries must submit all re-registration requests electronically through the government’s centralized digital portal, one.gov.mv. The agency emphasized that current recipients who fail to meet the 30 November 2026 cutoff date will face immediate suspension of their regular payments.

For those who do not submit their applications within this period, assistance will only be resumed upon applying via a new form and subject to evaluation under the standard eligibility criteria.

The agency established this strict submission timeline to prevent administrative backlogs and allow officers sufficient time to evaluate living conditions and income thresholds accurately. NSPA officials urge all affected households to gather the required documentation early and complete the process well before the closing date.
