MP Falah Likens Enthusiastic Applause for President Muizzu to North Korean Supporters

Supporters of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu clap in a manner reminiscent of North Korean supporters when his name is mentioned, according to Ibrahim Falah, Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) and Member of Parliament for Inguraidhoo constituency.

Speaking at a PNC rally held last night, Falah stated that the applause for President Muizzu demonstrates the public’s affection for him, contrasting it with the reaction given to former President Abdulla Yameen.

“There is a big difference between how people applaud when President Yameen is mentioned compared to when our current president is mentioned,” Falah said.

Falah asserted that the applause for President Yameen suggested public dissatisfaction, characterizing it unfavourably compared to the response generated by President Muizzu. Falah criticized Yameen’s past governance, accusing his administration of severe interference in the judiciary and the legislative branch. Additionally, he pointed out that the MDP administration left the country on the verge of bankruptcy. 

In his address, Falah also highlighted the general mood within the PNC, stating that happiness and smiles were evident across the party’s supporters, leadership, and general membership alike. He further elaborated that PNC currently has over 77,000 members from when they initially started.
