Teachers’ Knowledge and Experience Vital in a Changing World, Says Vice President

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that teachers’ knowledge and experience are indispensable in an ever-evolving global landscape, emphasising that national education systems must adapt alongside dynamic global advancements.
He delivered these remarks while officiating as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 8th International Teachers’ Conference, where he highlighted the pivotal role educators play in shaping students’ futures and building the nation’s broader destiny.
The two-day 8th International Teachers’ Conference, held from September 12 to 13 at Shaheed Ali School in Hulhumalé, gathered over 200 participants, including local and international educators, school administrators, and policy experts.
Organised by the National Institute of Education (NIE) under the theme “Reimagine, Rethink, Reform – Advancing Innovation for an Equitable and Resilient Future,” the event features more than 60 research paper presentations, alongside specialised workshops, panel discussions, and keynote addresses aimed at addressing systemic challenges and fostering innovation in modern education.
Addressing the rise of transformative technology, the Vice President emphasised that the education system must evolve to meet modern demands. He noted that artificial intelligence serves as a powerful catalyst—opening new avenues for educators while delivering substantial benefits to students.
Despite rapid technological growth, the Vice President affirmed that technology alone cannot replace the human foundation of learning. “No technology can replace a dedicated teacher,” he stated, noting that while technology provides tools, educators remain uniquely suited to help students realise their full potential and grow into responsible citizens. Consequently, he stressed that empowering teachers with updated knowledge and resources must keep pace with global advancements.
Expanding on national development goals, the Vice President also highlighted the crucial need for skilled labour. He stated that youth proficient in technical fields and vocational trades are vital to economic progress, underscoring the importance of integrating robust vocational education within the formal academic framework.
