Abdul Raheem: Leaders Need at Least Two Terms to Deliver Development

Speaking at the People’s National Congress (PNC) party ceremony last night, Parliament Speaker and PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that allowing a leader to serve two consecutive terms is essential for national development and economic prosperity. 

He urged party members to remain fully committed to their work, emphasising that the primary objective is to secure a second term and election victory for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in 2028.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the second congress of the ruling PNC, which is the nation’s largest political party, Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the Maldives’ progress and development are intrinsically linked to PNC. He further elaborated that the peace and stability desired by Maldivians can only be delivered if the party wins a second term under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. 

President Muizzu is working to build a self-reliant and sovereign Maldives while ensuring no foreign entity crosses the nation’s “red line” of independence, according to Abdul Raheem. He stated that fulfilling this vision requires granting the President a second term in office.

“The Maldives must achieve stability, and the country must advance along the path of development. Maldivian citizens must be given the opportunity to live in peace and safety, and they must be made prosperous. This can only be accomplished if a single leader remains in power in the Maldives for 10 years—at least 10 years,” Abdul Raheem Abdulla said.

PNC members must leave the congress fully committed to winning the 2028 presidential election and maintain that focus until victory is secured for President Muizzu, Abdul Raheem declared.

Noting the attendance of main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed at the opening ceremony of the ruling PNC’s congress, Abdul Raheem Abdulla offered an apology for speaking in that manner in his presence. 

“I sincerely apologise since a former president is seated here, and I ask that you take no offence. I express my gratitude to President Nasheed for attending tonight’s gathering. However, we are political figures, and political parties are established to govern,” he said.

Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that PNC always prioritises the nation, working to ensure that Maldivians retain the right to determine their own affairs. He added that the party maintains no ideology or vision other than delivering the Maldives that its people desire.
