10 Women Elected to PNC Members’ Council as Shiuna Tops Poll

Ten women have been elected to seats allocated for women on the Members’ Council of the People’s National Congress (PNC) at the party’s ongoing congress in Malé.
Mariyam Shiuna topped the poll with 930 votes, followed by Sheryna Abdul Samad with 885 votes and Fathimath Mizna Ali with 881 votes.
The election was contested by 22 candidates, with 1,085 delegates casting their ballots.
The 10 elected members, according to the announced results, are:
- Mariyam Shiuna — 930 votes
- Sheryna Abdul Samad — 885 votes
- Fathimath Mizna Ali — 881 votes
- Mariyam Samia — 870 votes
- Aishath Mohamed — 863 votes
- Aminath Namza — 846 votes
- Asiyath Reesha Mohamed — 843 votes
- Fathimath Rukushana — 837 votes
- Fathimath Mohamed — 841 votes
- Aminath Shuhuda — 819 votes
The voting was conducted digitally through a mobile application. Delegates were required to scan a QR code to access the electronic ballot and were given five minutes to cast and submit their votes.
Internal elections for several party positions are continuing at the four-day PNC Congress, which began on 15 September and is scheduled to conclude on 18 September.
Earlier today, six vice-presidents were elected to the party’s leadership.
More than 1,300 delegates are attending the congress, where members are also discussing proposed amendments to the party’s internal regulations and electing representatives to various governing bodies.
The congress is being held in Malé as the ruling party carries out elections for positions within its organisational structure.
