Malaysia ready to deepen partnership with Maldives, says Anwar

Malaysia is ready to further strengthen its partnership with the Maldives for mutual benefit, peace and shared prosperity, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said.
In a special message to the People’s National Congress (PNC) gathering last night, Anwar described Malaysia as a “truly trusted partner” of the Maldives and said his country was willing to share its development experience in areas including advanced technology, artificial intelligence, the halal economy and Islamic finance.
The message was delivered on Anwar’s behalf by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a PNC ceremony.
“This bodes well for the special bond of friendship between Malaysia and the Republic of Maldives,” Anwar said.
He also said the PNC’s stated commitment to democratic values, social justice and nationhood closely aligned with Malaysia’s national framework. Anwar expressed hope that the ruling party would continue to uphold what he described as a legacy of inclusivity, moderation and public empowerment.
President Muizzu told those attending the ceremony that Anwar had intended to remain in the Maldives and participate in the gathering, but had to leave early to attend an official ceremony in Malaysia.
The message followed the conclusion of Anwar’s two-day state visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Muizzu.
During the visit, the two leaders held official bilateral talks at the President’s Office and agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas including defence, trade and finance.
