Gulhifalhu Land Handover Progress Remains Below 40%

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has revealed that only 39.3 percent of land plots allocated under the Binveriyaa Scheme in Gulhifalhu have been physically handed over to recipients.

Of the 3,548 plots allocated under the scheme, 1,393 have so far been physically transferred to plot holders.

The ministry’s figures show a significantly higher level of progress in property documentation. A total of 3,086 registries have been issued to date, accounting for approximately 87 percent of the allocated plots.

The ministry said documentation relating to the physical handover of plots is available through the Hiyaavehi Portal, allowing recipients to access information about their allocated properties.

They also said some plots have yet to be handed over because they are located in areas currently being used for the Thila-Malé Bridge project and other infrastructure developments.

According to the ministry, those plots will be physically handed over once the areas are cleared and become available for transfer. 

The Thilamale’ Bridge connecting Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi project has reached 76.1 per cent completion, with the 6.7-kilometre network of bridges and causeways expected to be completed and opened to public transport on December 21, 2027.

The figures indicate a gap between the progress of property documentation and the physical transfer of land to recipients, with less than 40 per cent of the allocated plots physically handed over so far.
