Court Cases Nearly Double Since Criminal Court Moved To New Building, PGO Says

The number of cases scheduled before the courts has nearly doubled since the Criminal Court moved into its new building in June 2024, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).
The PGO made the comparison while releasing its prosecution statistics for August 2026, during which prosecutors attended 1,205 court hearings.

The office accepted 222 cases during the month and filed 330 charges in court. Prosecutors also provided legal advice and directives to investigators in 729 cases as part of the PGO’s duty prosecution work.
The PGO said the increase in scheduled court cases represents a significant rise compared with the period before the Criminal Court moved to its new premises.
The Criminal Court moved into its newly inaugurated building in July 2025.. The facility includes 10 courtrooms for the Criminal Court and five for the Drug Court, as well as 17 rooms for judges and dedicated spaces for defence lawyers and public prosecutors.
