Shahid Condemns Alleged Assault on Raajje TV Team in Meedhoo

Former MDP President Abdulla Shahid has condemned the alleged assault and harassment of Raajje TV journalists while they were filming in Dh. Meedhoo on Friday, calling on authorities to ensure a safe working environment for journalists.

Shahid said he “strongly condemns” the alleged attack and called on the government and relevant authorities to take action against those responsible.

According to RaajjeMV, a group arrived at the scene where they were filming an episode of their Haalu Kihineh program, with the outlet alleging that some present were members of the ruling party PNC. The outlet also alleged that a family member of First Lady Saajidha Mohamed was also amongst the group.

RaajjeMV reported that the group allegedly assaulted the film team and local residents assisting with the programme.

The report also alleged that the group shouted in the street, used vulgar language and attempted to disrupt the peace in the area.

The outlet further reported that some of the members attempted to damage the station’s camera equipment. It alleged that former Meedhoo Council Vice President Ali Shareef attempted to hit a cameraman with a motorcycle, but was unsuccessful. 

RaajjeMV further said that they had attempted to file a case with the Maldives Police Service today, but was denied the chance. The outlet said that the officer present at the station at the time had told to come back in an official working day.
