Man Arrested in Angolhitheemu Over Sexual Assault and Death Threat Against Elderly Woman

A 44-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested in R. Angolhitheemu following allegations that he trespassed into a residential property, sexually assaulted a 72-year-old woman, and threatened to kill her, police have confirmed.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the incident was reported at around 8:30 pm on Sunday.

The elderly woman was taken to the Angolhitheemu Health Centre for medical treatment following the alleged assault. Police said she has since been discharged.

Officers executed a court warrant last night at approximately 21:57 to arrest the 44-year-old suspect in connection with the case.

The suspect remains in custody while police continue their investigation. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and no formal charges or convictions have been recorded.
