Capacity-Building Workshop Launched to Drive Energy Efficiency in Building Sector

The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, alongside the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), has launched a three-day training workshop aimed at boosting energy efficiency in the Maldivian building sector.
As per the Ministry’s official social media post, the workshop gathers 40 professionals from across the architectural, engineering, and construction fields and is running from 29 September to 1 October 2026. The training focuses on implementing the Maldives Energy Efficiency Guideline for Buildings across national construction projects.

Energy experts from Deloitte Maldives are delivering the technical sessions, the Ministry says. The syllabus covers core aspects of sustainable infrastructure design, including thermal comfort, integrated renewable energy systems, and digital energy modelling tailored specifically to local climate conditions using eQUEST software.
State Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Energy Dr Muaviyath Mohamed officially opened the event. The Ministry highlights that Dr Muaviyath underscored the critical role that early-stage architectural and engineering decisions play in determining long-term national energy demand.
“Decisions made at the initial design and construction phases have a lasting impact on national energy consumption,” Dr Muaviyath stated. He noted that while the national guidelines offer vital technical standards, the primary objective remains equipping local industry professionals with the practical expertise needed to execute them effectively.
The Ministry emphasises that the initiative aims to build technical capacity across the construction industry, encouraging widespread adoption of energy-efficient design, building, and operational practices throughout the Maldives.
