The voting session to approve party affairs, amend the party charter, and pass resolutions commenced today at the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Congress.

Today marks the third day of the MDP Congress. The first session of the day focused on submitting proposed amendments to the party charter and opening them for debate.

The second session was scheduled for the presentation and debate of the “Bodu Badhalu” (Major Change) resolution, while the third session focused on presenting and debating the decentralisation resolution.

Voting on all three matters will take place following these sessions. Afterward, delegates will vote on the investment agreements secured during yesterday’s Invest Forum, followed by the official closing ceremony of the Congress tonight.

Among the key amendments proposed to the party charter is the abolition of the positions of Party President and Vice President, making the Chairperson the highest official role in the party structure.

Another major item on the agenda is the vote on the “Bodu Badhalu” resolution, a manifesto aimed at overhauling the Maldives’ system of governance. The manifesto was submitted by former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail.

Additionally, at yesterday’s Investment Forum local island councils presented business proposals at the forum, several of which are expected to secure investor funding.

The third day of the MDP Congress opened today with 368 delegates in attendance.
