Fayyaz Slams Govt Over Rasmale’ Eagle Hills Deal, Demands Public Consent on Land Rights

MV+ News Desk | October 4, 2026

Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has criticised the government over plans to grant land to Eagle Hills for 99 years under the Ras Malé project and allow subdivided apartments built on the land to be sold individually to thousands of foreign buyers.

Speaking on Raajje TV’s “Fashairu” programme today, Fayyaz said repeated changes to the agreement could effectively amount to granting permanent ownership of the land, while accusing the government of failing to provide clear answers to the public about the project. He also pointed to information published on Eagle Hills’ website, saying the government had yet to clearly address questions over whether the land would ultimately be granted on a permanent basis.

Fayyaz said that if the government intends to pursue such a major project, it should openly advocate for it before the public and ensure that it proceeds only with the knowledge and consent of the people.
