Attracting investment into renewable energy, climate-resilient infrastructure and the blue economy will be central to the Maldives Finance Forum 2026, with discussions examining how green finance can support economic resilience and long-term retirement security.
Organised by the Maldives Pension Office, the forum’s 13th edition will take place on 14 November 2026 at DusitD2 Feydhoo Maldives. It will be held under the theme “Green Finance: Unlocking Sustainable Investment and Financial Security in the Maldives.”
Policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, investors, development partners and local and international experts will consider how the country can mobilise long-term sustainable capital. Discussions will explore the financial instruments and market conditions suited to the Maldives, alongside the requirements for developing a credible domestic green finance market.
The agenda reflects the growing influence of climate risk on financial decisions. As investors, lenders and regulators increasingly assess climate exposure as a financial risk, it can affect the terms on which countries and institutions secure long-term funding.
For the Maldives, the forum will examine how sustainable investment can be channelled into sectors that help the economy withstand these risks. Discussions will build on domestic market developments, including the Maldives Sustainability Reporting Framework introduced by the Capital Market Development Authority in 2024, which supports the disclosures needed for credible green finance.
The issue also has implications for pension investment. As an institutional investor and social security provider, the Pension Office’s ability to deliver long-term returns for its members is linked to the resilience of the domestic economy and the availability of suitable investment opportunities.
“Pension savings are invested over decades, so the risks and opportunities that will shape the Maldivian economy over the next twenty or thirty years matter directly to our members,” said Yazmeed Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of the Maldives Pension Office.
He added: “Green finance is, at its core, about investing in a more resilient economy. This Forum brings together the people who can help turn that idea into practical opportunities for the Maldives.”
