The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) collected MVR 109.7 million in Zakat al-Mal during the first nine months of 2026, an increase of approximately 25 per cent compared to the same period last year.
According to MIRA’s September financial report, collections rose from MVR 87.8 million in the first nine months of 2025 to MVR 109.7 million this year.
However, monthly collections fell year-on-year, with MIRA receiving MVR 5.6 million in Zakat al-Mal in September, compared to MVR 5.2 million in September last year.
Zakat al-Mal is a compulsory Islamic payment on qualifying wealth held above the minimum threshold, known as Nisab, for one full lunar year. Unlike Zakat al-Fitr, which is paid during Ramadan, Zakat al-Mal can be paid at any time of the year.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs set the Nisab threshold for Zakat al-Mal at MVR 19,266.10 as of 20 August.
MIRA is responsible for collecting and administering Zakat al-Mal funds and provides online services for calculating and paying zakat.
