The government will provide free medical checkups for Hajj pilgrims from next year, Maldives Hajj Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Firzul Abdullah Khaleel has said.
Speaking on state media, Firzul said the Hajj Corporation, the Ministry of Health and Aasandha were working together to establish a system to provide the services at no cost to pilgrims.
He said medical checkups were mandatory for all Hajj pilgrims and were important to identify existing health conditions and ensure they were medically prepared before travelling to Saudi Arabia.
Firzul said having advance information on pilgrims’ health would also help authorities complete administrative arrangements and prepare for potential medical emergencies during the pilgrimage.
“Starting next year, pilgrims will not have to pay out of pocket, but will receive the opportunity for a medical checkup through a well-structured system,” he said.
The Hajj Corporation has also arranged for people travelling for Umrah under its care to receive vaccinations free of charge at their nearest health centre.
