The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has announced new appointments to the boards of directors of three major state-owned enterprises (SOEs), naming former Male’ City Deputy Mayor Mohamed Areesh alongside two private-sector professionals to governance roles.
Official announcements published by the state oversight body on their social media confirm that Mohamed Areesh will join the board of Maldives Post Limited. Before this appointment, Areesh worked as an Under Secretary at the President’s Office, a position he assumed in August. He previously served as Deputy Mayor of Male’ City after winning a seat on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket, before defecting to the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) following the election of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In April 2026, contesting for a seat on the Male’ City Council representing the Maafannu West (Maafannu Hulhangu) constituency as a People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate, Areesh lost his bid for a second term. He received 675 votes, falling short to the incumbent Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, Mohamed Rizwan Ali, who won the seat with 1,040 votes.
Alongside Areesh, the PCB appointed Ismail Faruhad Ahmed to the board of State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited (StatePharma). Faruhad brings extensive commercial experience in tourism and local administration, currently serving as Managing Director at Gems Maldives Pvt Ltd and having previously directed operations at the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Local Authority Company.
The third appointment sees corporate executive Ahmed Imdhaah Mohamed join the board of the State Trading Organisation (STO). Imdhaah possesses a background in the construction and design sectors, having held leadership roles at Tekton Design Associates, Proman-Co Pvt Ltd, and Core Construction Pvt Ltd, as well as prior public service experience as Vice President of the Hoarafushi Council.
