The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have mobilised extensive emergency operations across northern atolls after persistent monsoon rains triggered severe flooding.

According to statements from both agencies, military personnel, police, local councils, and volunteer organisations are carrying out large-scale dewatering, deploying sandbags, and assisting displaced families across the most affected islands.

In Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Kulhudhuffushi City has deployed seven water pumps to lower flood levels, including three zones managed directly by MNDF Kulhudhuffushi Fire Station firefighters alongside police and the Maldivian Red Crescent. Authorities are working to temporarily house over 140 residents from 18 inundated homes across two local schools.

According to NDMA, in Nolhivaram, where nearly 95 per cent of houses were submerged, residents relocated to safer housing, with police actively supporting drainage efforts using a dewatering pump. Nolhivaranfaru residents self-evacuated from badly hit homes as two pumps operated continuously. Agricultural lands in Vaikaradhoo suffered significant damage from high water levels, while Kumundhoo reported water damage to food staples in three homes. Drainage efforts continued in Naivaadhoo and Finey, while Nellaidhoo and Kurinbee avoided structural damage.

In Lhaviyani Naifaru, floodwaters breached 16 homes, forcing the evacuation of two households. Firefighters from the MNDF Naifaru Fire Station deployed pumps to drain floodwaters across four sectors, while NDMA and the island council coordinated three days of relief shelter and food supplies for affected families.

Across Haa Alif Atoll, MNDF troops and firefighters travelled to Thakandhoo to excavate a drainage trench leading to the sea and run dewatering pumps, while local teams carried out damage assessments on flooded homes. Similar sea channels were cut to relieve flooded roads in Filladhoo, Kelaa, and Maarandhoo, and precautionary sandbags were erected around homes in Dhiddhoo and Ihavandhoo. Minor road flooding was reported in Baarah, Hoarafushi, Molhadhoo, Muraidhoo, Uligan, Utheemu, and Vashafaru, with no residential damage recorded.
