Mohamed Aslam, MP of Hithadhoo constituency, has been selected as President Solih’s running mate in the upcoming presidential election.
Aslam’s prior criminal record has been clarified by the party. Notably, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has not yet taken steps to address the criminal records of individuals other than Aslam.
Although the MDP has not formally announced Aslam’s appointment as President Solih’s running mate, it is confirmed that he has been chosen for the role. As the presidential election draws nearer, all candidates participating in the race are actively involved in the process of selecting their respective running mates.
At present, Aslam holds the position of chairman of the MDP parliamentary group and serves as the majority leader in the House of Representatives. This term marks Aslam’s fourth consecutive tenure as a parliamentarian. Throughout the years, his collaboration with President Solih has been noteworthy.
The decision to appoint Aslam as President Solih’s running mate coincides with the expressed interest of the current Vice President, Faisal Naseem, in the same role.
