Current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the representative of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and Mohamed Nazim from Maldives National Party (MNP) have formally lodged their candidacy forms with the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM).

President Solih has designated MP Mohamed Aslam as his running mate, meanwhile, Nazim’s running mate is Dr. Ahmed Adil Naseer.

The process of submitting the President Solih candidacy forms was overseen by Election Agent Mohamed Naashizaa and Campaign Manager Mohamed Rasheed Hussain, who arrived at the premises of the ECM to fulfill the requisite formalities. The submissions were presented to ECM President Fuad Thaufeeq.

The ECM now shoulders the responsibility to assess the candidacy forms presented by the presidential aspirants. According to regulations, the ECM must render a decision within 48 hours, with provisions for an appeal to the Supreme Court in the event of disputes.

With the nomination deadline set to expire tomorrow, political anticipation has intensified. The ECM has announced that the sorting of nominations will occur next Wednesday, a step poised to provide a clearer outlook on the candidates vying for the position.

As the electoral process unfolds, three parties have already submitted their candidacies for the presidential election.
