Ilyas Submits Candidacy Form to ECM

The presidential candidacy form for Ilyas Labeeb, the chosen representative of the Democrats, has been officially submitted to the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) for consideration.

In a noteworthy development, Hussain Amr, former Managing Director of STO, has been selected as Ilyas’s running mate, further enhancing the party’s electoral strategy.

Concurrently, contenders from other parties, including Ibrahim Mohammed Solih of the MDP and Mohamed Nazim of the MNP, have already presented their candidacy forms to the EC earlier this morning.

The formation of the Democrats is attributed to the backing of Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed. Nasheed’s prior departure from the leading Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) prompted the creation of this new political entity.

While Ilyas and Amr emerge as a prominent pair in the forthcoming presidential race, rival aspirants have yet to disclose their selected running mates.

With the presidential election scheduled for the 9th of the ensuing month, the clock is ticking, as the deadline for the submission of candidacy forms looms, expiring tomorrow.
