Defence Minister Mariya Didi, who serves as the campaign spokesperson for MDP’s presidential candidate President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, appealed for a peaceful campaign environment across all political parties.

This call follows recent incidents involving the vandalisation of the GDh. Madaveli MDP campaign house and acts of property destruction. Speaking at news conference today, Mariya underscored the importance of an unhindered campaign process within a democratic framework, stressing that every candidate should have the opportunity to campaign freely.

Referring to specific incidents, she shared, “in Hoadedhoo, our campaign house was subject to damage and black oil was splashed. A harbor was also subjected to arson. Instances of breaching security protocols occurred during the President’s arrival.”

Beyond the realm of politics, Mariya expressed the view that voting transcends mere political allegiance, encompassing active participation in national development. She affirmed that should any impediments arise, the involvement of law enforcement and military personnel should be sought to restore order.

Drawing on historical context, Mariya highlighted that even during the most tumultuous periods of the 2018 presidential election, such incidents were not witnessed within the MDP’s campaign activities.
