Several councilors have also chosen to align with the MDP, which has increased the party’s representation within the council.
Originally, the mayor and seven members were elected as MDP members. Later, they joined The Democrats.
Yasir rejoined the MDP in a ceremony held yesterday. He submitted his application to the MDP’s presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Yasir’s move to The Democrats took place when he was a part of the MDP parliamentary group, even though he had previously supported President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Yasir had once supported the MDP’s primary campaign. After some time, he became a part of another political group. It was observed that Yasir’s attendance at meetings decreased around the time The Democrats began their presidential campaign.
The specific reasons for Yasir’s recent move from The Democrats have not been made public.
Earlier, Yasir mentioned the pace of development projects in Kulhudhuffushi as a reason for leaving the MDP. Funds were allocated for several initiatives in the budget. Yasir and the council commented on the progress of some projects in relation to the expectations of the community.
