Gov’t to Initiate Health Centre Extension Projects Across Islands, Costing USD 1.6 Million

The Ministry of Health has announced plans to enhance healthcare facilities by initiating projects aimed at constructing extensions for health centres in five islands.

The proposed extension projects are set to be implemented at health centres located in Maaungoodhoo and Kanditheemu, both situated in the Shaviyani Atoll, as well as Ukulhas in the Alifu Alifu Atoll, Meedhoo in the Raa Atoll and Guraidhoo in the Kaafu Atoll.

These extensions will encompass a range of essential amenities, including administrative offices, meeting rooms, public health units, general stores, medical storage areas, and laundry facilities.

The responsibility for overseeing the construction of the extension at the Maaungoodhoo health centre, as well as the Kanditheemu health centre, has been assigned to Central Line Private Limited. 

The estimated cost for each of these extensions is USD 1.6 million. Meanwhile, the extension for the Guraidhoo health centre will be developed by Altec Maldives Private Limited, with a budget of USD 4.9 million. For the Ukulhas health centre, the extension project has been awarded to Fedo Private Limited, with a contracted amount of USD 5 million.
