Presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the People’s National Congress (PNC) has vowed to facilitate the pilgrimage of 1,000 underprivileged individuals to Hajj within a span of five years, should he win the election.
Muizzu’s electoral campaign centres on addressing the operational deficiencies of the Hajj Corporation, a state-owned entity entrusted with managing the Hajj pilgrimage. He asserted that fundamental changes are imperative to rectify the current operational inefficiencies.
Furthermore, Muizzu pledged to introduce a scheme allowing individuals with limited financial means to pay for the Hajj pilgrimage in manageable installments.
“The prudent investment of the Hajj fund will fortify its financial standing, potentially leading to a reduction in Hajj transportation costs,” Muizzu stated.
In addition, Muizzu envisioned the establishment of the Maldives Zakat House, a legal entity aimed at enhancing the utility of the Zakat Fund for the public’s benefit.
This strategic initiative, he believes, will enable diversification of fund investments across multiple sectors, consequently augmenting returns and inflows into the Zakat Fund.
