This comes as part of a broader initiative aimed at improving the healthcare infrastructure across 34 islands within the atolls. Valued at MVR 85.7 million, the contract mandates the completion of the hospital within a timeframe of 540 days.
The decision to proceed with this development was announced by the government in December of the previous year, with the objective of providing accessible healthcare to the approximately 3,500 residents of Hoarafushi.
Among these are upgrades to existing health centres, elevating their services to hospital standards. This entails the creation of both 30-bed and 50-bed hospitals in targeted locations.
Notably, this includes the establishment of tertiary hospitals in five distinct regions of the country, alongside the expansion of existing structures to accommodate the growing demand for healthcare services.
