The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has asserted that the ongoing housing development initiatives by the current administration offer more affordability in contrast to the previous government led by President Abdulla Yameen.
During a press conference, Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson for the MDP candidate, compared the expenditure associated with housing projects initiated under the administrations of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and former President Yameen.
In her statement, Mariya emphasised that the preceding government exclusively constructed two-room housing units, whereas the present administration is actively engaged in constructing both two-room and three-room apartments. Furthermore, Mariya highlighted the financial differences between the two governments’ housing endeavours.
She revealed that while the previous administration allocated USD 62,000 for two-room apartments, the current administration’s expenses for two-room apartments are capped at USD 48,000, and for three-room apartments, the expenses reach up to USD 69,000.
Mariya further noted that the current government has integrated essential services within its housing projects, distinguishing itself from the prior administration. In addition, she critiqued the policies of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the main opposition’s candidate, by contending that many of his promises have already been met or are in progress under the present administration.
The comparison drawn by the MDP between the two administrations’ housing strategies underscores a shift towards increased affordability and broader services under the current leadership.
