This bill requires a minimum of 21 votes to pass and has now been forwarded to the committee of the entire parliament due to provision regarding taxes.

A proposal within the bill put forward by the Chairman of the Environment Committee of the Parliament and Hoarafushi Constituency MP Ahmed Saleem, is to reduce the bag fee from MVR 2 to 50 Laari.

Simultaneously, the Industrial Relations Bill, introduced by Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef on behalf of the government successfully passed through the House and has been referred to the Economic Committee for further evaluation. The bill garnered support from 43 members, surpassing the 22 votes required for passage.

This particular bill has faced multiple adjournments in the past, having been scheduled for debate on four separate occasions without reaching a conclusion. However, it finally secured approval today following concerns voiced by members of parliament.
