The Democrats (TD) have revealed their intention to contest all constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections, during an interim council meeting, yesterday.

Speaking to the press, MP Hassan Latheef, the founder of TD, discussed the party’s strategy. He stated that while they would be fielding candidates in all constituencies, they would simultaneously pursue efforts to maintain a specific number of Members of Parliament.

Currently, there are 87 members in the Parliament, a number that is anticipated to increase to 93 members in the next year’s parliamentary elections, citing the growth of population.

Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, a member of TD, has put forth a constitutional amendment proposal aimed at reducing the number of Parliament members to 76. The proposal is expected to be a topic of discussion in the lead-up to the elections.
