The Supreme Court has issued an order directing to reveal specific details regarding President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s visit to the United States of America.

This decision comes after a series of legal proceedings and appeals related to the disclosure of expenses incurred during the President’s visit to the United States in 2021 to deliver a speech at the United Nations.

The initial dispute began when the prosecution moved the Supreme Court after the High Court upheld the Information Commissioner’s order to disclose the costs and details of the President and a delegation of senior state officials’ visit to the United States in 2021 to deliver a speech at the United Nations.

Challenging this ruling, the prosecution subsequently appealed the decision of the Supreme Court Registrar, who had initially dismissed the case. This led to a thorough review by the Supreme Court judges.

Last week, the Supreme Court judges rendered their verdict, deeming the prosecution’s case to be founded on legally debatable grounds.

The prosecution had contended that the release of information such as receipts for the President’s travel expenses could potentially jeopardise the President’s security and expose personal information. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of disclosure, even after certain sensitive information had been redacted.
