Majlis Session Cancelled Due to Insufficient Quorum

Today’s session at the Majlis, the 87-member Parliament of the Maldives, had to be canceled due to an insufficient quorum.
This was announced by the Speaker when it became evident that the required minimum of 22 members was not present.
Deputy Speaker Galolhu North MP Eva Abdullah presided over the session. Today’s agenda at the Majlis included the discussion of the Supplementary Budget for 2023. The government had presented this budget to Parliament with the aim of securing approval for an additional allocation of MVR 6.5 billion to meet the approved budget expenditures for this year.
Secondly, the agenda included the debate on the Tourism Act Amendment Bill, which was moved by Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa, on behalf of the government.
