A detailed breakdown of the figures from that year shows that the total count of fishermen skyrocketed to 17,589 individuals, marking a substantial leap from the 7,909 fishermen reported in 2015. This striking rise underlines a notable and rapid growth trajectory within a mere two-year span.
Specifically, certain atolls experienced exceptional expansions in their fishermen populations:
- South Huvadhu Atoll: Emerged as the epicenter of this remarkable surge, recording a staggering increase from 632 fishermen in 2015 to 2042 individuals engaged in fishing activities in 2017, showcasing a rise within this particular region.
