English Translation of Friday Sermons to be Broadcasted on TV

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has revealed that starting January 1, 2024, the Friday sermon, known as Huthubaa, will be broadcast on television with English translation.

Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has invited public feedback on the proposal to deliver sermons in English in one mosque within the city. This initiative is in response to the significant number of foreign Muslims residing in Maldives. The Minister mentioned that the senior management meeting of the Islamic Ministry thoroughly discussed the matter.

The sermons will continue to be conducted in the Dhivehi language, but to cater to the diverse community, the Minister assured the availability of translations online in various languages. 

Additionally, English subtitles will be incorporated during the live TV broadcast, with these measures set to be implemented from January 1.

Moreover, the Friday sermon will also be broadcast live with sign language interpretation. In a broader effort to promote awareness, Minister Shaheem announced plans to collaborate with relevant agencies in other countries. 

These initiatives aim to enhance awareness among foreign workers in the Maldives about social standards and ethics.
