Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, has said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will be given access to the Gedhoruverin Portal for investigation of housing allocations.
This move follows the previous government’s suspension of the allocation of 4,000 flats in Hulhumale’, complying with ACC directives prompted by complaints about the recipient list, which was processed through the Gedhoruverin Portal.
Addressing the Parliamentary Committee on Petitions, Minister Dr. Haidar outlined the new administration’s housing policy, emphasising the goal of creating comfortable living spaces in developed areas. He assured that, rather than nullifying the existing list, the government will assess and allocate flats to eligible applicants.
Minister Dr. Haidar expressed the administration’s commitment to resuming the allocation process in alignment with the ACC’s recommendations. He confirmed the intention to follow the commission’s guidance, with eligible applicants receiving housing. Minister Dr. Haidar added that the ACC would gain full access to the online portal once the necessary adjustments are made by developers within a week.
The ACC members faced questioning from the petitions committee regarding the duration of their investigation, perceived as impeding the public’s access to affordable housing. In response, ACC members assured the committee of their determination to expedite the investigation, enabling the government to resume the allocation process promptly.
During the meeting, ACC members highlighted significant issues within the recipient list, including misclassification of atoll residents as Male’ residents and the awarding of points for having children, even to those without. They acknowledged that resolving these issues would require some time to complete a thorough investigation.
