Gov’t Clarifies Discrepancies in Indian Troop Numbers in Maldives

The government has acknowledged discrepancies in the reported number of Indian troops stationed in the country, highlighting a need for clarification.

Initially, the government announced that there were 77 Indian troops in the Maldives. However, President Dr. Muizzu revealed that the exact number remains unclear, citing variations in different official documents. The reported figures range from 77 to 89 troops.

A senior Indian official disclosed to Adhadhu Media that the additional troops include nine military doctors stationed in Senahiya, bringing the total number to 89.

Responding to queries on the matter, Minister at the President’s Office for Strategic Communications Ibrahim Khaleel stated that the presence of Indian troops is currently under scrutiny in the Maldives. Relevant government agencies are actively working to identify the exact number of troops and their respective roles.

Khaleel assured the public that authorities will disclose detailed information, emphasising that this process has been ongoing since day one. However, he noted that it will take time to clarify the discrepanciesin the reported number.

Meanwhile, Khaleel clarified that the initially announced figure by the government on the first day was based on available data up to that point. 

He reiterated that ongoing research and the collection of additional information are underway to provide an accurate account of the situation.
