The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has levelled accusations of negligence against the government in the ongoing search for Mohamed Naeesh Nasr, an 18-year-old reported missing in Addu City.
Naeesh went missing at 10:45 pm last Thursday while venturing into the waters off Gan with two friends for shrimp catching. Expressing concern over the search efforts, MDP issued a statement asserting that despite more than 72 hours passing since Naeesh’s disappearance, the state has not fully deployed all available resources for the search.
The party emphasised the need for assistance from nations with longstanding relations and questioned the absence of the deployment of Maldives’ technical resources. MDP expressed its disapproval, stating that prioritising political agendas over the life of a Maldivian citizen was unacceptable.
MDP urged the government to utilise all resources within the Maldives for the search operation. The statement coincided with rumours suggesting that Dornier aircraft, operated with the assistance of Indian pilots, had not been deployed for Naeesh’s search operation.
Despite extensive search efforts, authorities have not found any sign of Naeesh as concerns grow over the efficacy of the ongoing operation.
