President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to reclaim an additional three hectares of land from R. Ungoofaru, exceeding the previously outlined reclamation scope.
The declaration came in response to concerns raised by a resident of R. Ungoofaru, Ahmed Shiyam, during the ‘Raees ge Javaabu’ series. This series provides a platform for the public to directly address their queries and concerns to the President.
Shiyam expressed apprehension regarding the ongoing reclamation works on the island, citing a pledge made during the presidential election to maximise the extent of reclamation.
In response, Muizzu assured the public of his commitment to fulfilling his pledges.
The reclamation project for Ungoofaru was awarded to MTCC in early 2021. The project’s scope includes reclaiming 10 hectares of land, constructing a 1,150-meter rock boulder development, and building 75 meters of groynes.
