The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that abandoned vehicles on the roads of Male City and Hulhumale will be towed and disposed of from today onwards.
The ministry said in an announcement that the project will be launched on 17th February as part of the ministry’s efforts to address the traffic flow problems caused by road congestion.
Under this work, vehicles that have been illegally parked on the roads of Male’ and Hulhumale for a long period of time will be identified according to the prescribed procedures and removed from the roads, the announcement said.
The ministry said the work will be carried out in collaboration with the Male’ City Council, HDC, WAMCO and the police.
The ministry last week opened the door for people who want to dispose of their vehicles themselves; The opportunity is open until the 3rd of next month.
There are many four-wheelers parked on the streets of the city, especially on both sides of Boduthakurufaanu Road. Cars and vans are parked on both sides of the road, resulting in only two lanes of traffic being available on the four-lane road.
