The Civil Court has ordered to freeze Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir’s bank accounts following allegations of his failure to fulfill a USD 750,000 payment agreement for a 50 percent stake in Marine Technology Maldives.

According to court documents, Jabir initially dispersed USD 50,000, followed by an additional USD 100,000 towards the agreed purchase price, leaving an outstanding balance of USD 600,000.

The plaintiff asserts that Jabir had promised to settle the debt from proceeds generated by the sale of a lagoon in K. Atoll, owned by Jabir’s enterprise, J Hotels and Resorts.

Despite reportedly receiving USD 15 million from the lagoon’s sale, Jabir purportedly remitted only USD 100,000 to the plaintiff. Furthermore, the plaintiff alleges that when approached for the outstanding payment, Jabir responded with offensive language and refused to fulfil the financial obligation.

In response to the lawsuit, the Civil Court has issued an injunction to freeze Jabir’s bank accounts, along with accounts associated with companies in which he holds substantial interests, namely J Hotels and Resorts, and International Travel Consultant.

The court directive specifies freezing USD 600,000 if available in the mentioned accounts, or the entire balance if less than the stated amount.

The order encompasses accounts across seven banks where Jabir holds deposits, including Bank of Maldives, Maldives Islamic Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank of Maldives, Mauritius Commercial Bank, and Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
