President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has outlined plans to bolster the capabilities of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) with a focus on enhancing border patrols, aiming to achieve round-the-clock surveillance by the end of March.
Addressing residents in Noonu Atoll’s Manadhoo, Muizzu emphasised the necessity of strengthening the nation’s security apparatus, highlighting the historic challenge of conducting comprehensive surveillance across the Maldives’ expansive 900,000 square kilometre ocean territory.
While specific details regarding the MNDF’s capacity-building initiatives remain undisclosed by the government, President Muizzu revealed plans for the imminent launch of the National Air Ambulance service, scheduled for the upcoming Friday.
The initiative will utilise a Dash 8 aircraft and a seaplane provided by Maldivian Airlines, repurposed to facilitate medical evacuations and enhance emergency response capabilities across the archipelago.
