Illegally Parked Vehicles to Face Parking Fines Again
In response to ongoing concerns over illegal parking in the city, authorities have declared that stringent measures will resume starting Thursday, police officials announced yesterday.
The decision comes as illegal parking continues to cause disruptions and inconvenience to both pedestrians and motorists, particularly affecting public transport services and emergency vehicles, according to a statement released by the police department.
The statement urges citizens to adhere strictly to designated parking zones in two key areas of Male’ and Hulhumale’. Emphasizing their commitment to tackling the issue, police authorities highlighted specific locations where illegal parking will be closely monitored:
– Green Zone areas
– Public transport routes
– Street corners and alleys
– Vicinities surrounding schools
– Parking spaces at office buildings, hospitals, facilities for the disabled, mosques, public houses, and garages
Effective from Thursday, law enforcement measures will include towing vehicles found parked illegally, accompanied by the imposition of fines.
The announcement follows a temporary halt to the issuance of parking stickers, announced by police on January 8, due to the need for increased parking availability in the city. Consequently, an upsurge in vehicles parked along roadsides has been observed.
In addressing the persistent issue of parking shortages, the current administration has committed to the construction of parking facilities across the city. With vehicle congestion posing a significant challenge, the lack of adequate parking space has emerged as a pressing concern.
