President’s Office Denies Misuse of Funds for Karaoke Machine

The Presidential Office issued a statement today refuting claims circulating on social media alleging that President Mohammed Muizzu’s family engages in karaoke activities.

Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel, speaking on behalf of the President’s Office, addressed the accusations, stating that there is no truth to the rumours regarding karaoke being performed by the President or his family members.

“These claims are entirely false,” Minister Khaleel asserted in a communication to the press. “The suggestion that an expensive karaoke system has been installed in the official residence of the President is unequivocally untrue.”

The allegations gained traction after assertions were made during a recent meeting of the political party associated with former President Abdullah Yameen. However, Minister Khaleel dismissed these claims as baseless fabrications.

“It is evident that certain individuals are propagating deceitful information to manipulate public opinion and divert attention from their own dubious activities,” Minister Khaleel remarked.

Speculation linking President Muizzu’s wife, Sajida Mohammed, to the alleged acquisition of a karaoke system for the presidential residence also surfaced on social media platforms. However, investigations into the circulated photographs have revealed inconsistencies.

A widely circulated image purportedly depicting a lavish karaoke setup worth MVR1.5 million was examined by the news media outlet Adhadhu, which confirmed that the scene did not originate from the presidential residence, Muleeaage. Former and current officials associated with the residence confirmed to the news outlet that the image in question did not depict  Muleeaage.

Subsequent inquiries by Adhadhu traced the image to a Vietnamese website, dispelling any connections to the President’s family or official residence.

While there is no proof of a karaoke system inside Muleeaage, more videos have surfaced on social media where a woman alleged to be the First Lady is seen singing karaoke.
