The Male’ City Council has issued a plea to the public, urging residents to aid in identifying individuals responsible for dumping garbage on the streets.
Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim highlighted the urgency of the matter, noting that these offenders are being closely monitored.
Individuals witnessing instances of illegal dumping are encouraged to submit photos and videos of the perpetrators. The council has provided contact details for submissions, including the phone number 9341144 (accessible via Viber/WhatsApp) or through the official website http://complaints.malecity.gov.mv/en.
The call for assistance comes in response to a recent surge in street garbage, prompting concerns over cleanliness and public health. Last Thursday, the Male City Council reported a significant cleanup operation, during which over 42.6 tons of waste were collected from the city streets.
The cleanup effort was prompted by an increase in discarded furniture and household appliances, observed as residents engaged in pre-Ramadan cleaning activities. Among the items collected were sofas, gas cookers, and various kitchenware, which obstructed pedestrian pathways in several areas of the city.
