Ministry Conducts Welfare Checks on Over 1,000 Households Under ‘Haalu Kihinei?’ Programme
The Ministry of Social and Family Development has visited 1,015 households as part of its ‘Haalu Kihinei?’ programme, aimed at assessing community welfare needs since its launch on May 30th.
During these visits, residents of Hiyaa flats highlighted various challenges, with healthcare accessibility emerging as a primary concern. Issues included difficulties in securing appointments with specialist doctors and the transportation of elderly and disabled individuals to medical facilities.
Other significant concerns voiced by residents encompassed housing insecurity, compounded by multi-family occupancy in single households, and limited employment opportunities with adequate pay, particularly affecting persons with disabilities.
The Ministry underscored its commitment to addressing these issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Recent meetings with the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) aimed to strategise on effective interventions.
Efforts are also underway to provide specialised housing for vulnerable groups identified through the ‘Haalu Kihinei?’ programme, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of fostering a compassionate society.
Minister for Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham has personally participated in household visits as part of the programme’s implementation.
