18-Year-Old Electrocution Victim Passes Away

An 18-year-old boy from Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru, Hussain Atheeq from Dhoonihuraa, passed away after being electrocuted while attempting to save a younger child on May 23.

Despite receiving immediate care at the Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, his condition remained precarious, leading to his transfer to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ on May 25, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

The severity of the incident left Atheeq with extensive brain and kidney damage, stemming from his attempt to save two children, aged 8 and 12, from a perilous situation. 

The children had been innocently playing near a puddle of water, unknowingly electrified by a nearby street lamp post.
