59-Year-Old Sentenced to 25 Years for Diamorphine Trafficking

A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined MVR 100,000 after being convicted of trafficking diamorphine.

The court sentenced Abdul Wahhab Ahmed of Dhaftharu No. 07 in S. Meedhoo yesterday.

According to the police, the case was reported on December 1, 2021. Following the completion of the investigation, police forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) on January 13, 2022, to press charges.

Drug-related crimes are the third most reported type of vice so far this year, with 1,671 cases filed at the Maldives Police Service so far.
