A Decade of Healing: ICP Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (ICP) celebrated its 10th anniversary on 14th April 2025, commemorating a decade of dedicated service, meaningful partnerships, and transformative mental health care in the Maldives.

Founded in 2014 by two visionary professionals who recognised the urgent need for accessible mental health services, ICP has grown from a small initiative into one of the nation’s leading mental health institutions. The event, held in Malé, brought together partners, clients, staff, and supporters to reflect on the journey and reaffirm ICP’s mission for the future.

Over the past 10 years, ICP has provided counselling, psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and more recently expanded its services to include speech and occupational therapy. Having served over 5,000 clients, ICP has become a trusted resource for individuals and institutions seeking ethical, inclusive, and person-centred care.

In addition to its clinical work, ICP has conducted widespread training and awareness programs nationwide, working with professionals, schools, corporations, and communities. Its commitment to capacity-building has helped shape the next generation of mental health advocates in the Maldives.

Throughout national crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, ICP remained at the forefront, offering virtual counselling, emotional support, and mental health first aid. These timely interventions underscored the institute’s resilience and dedication to the well-being of the public. Strategic partnerships have played a key role in ICP’s growth. Collaborations with government institutions, NGOs, educational bodies, and private sector organisations have broadened its reach and strengthened its programs.

“This celebration was not only about looking back at what we’ve built—but also about the future we envision,” said the ICP management team. “We are deeply grateful to every client, partner, volunteer, and member of our team who has contributed to our journey. Together, we are transforming the mental health narrative in the Maldives.”
